Wall-to-Wall Poetry Unity in Diversity

The Wall-to-Wall poetry project is a celebration of the European message of unity in diversity. It was initiated by the Dutch Embassy in Bulgaria but became a pan-European project in which member states and candidate countries share their poetry with Sofia. Within the project each embassy adopted a wall in the city and decorated it with a poem in its national language as well as translation in English and Bulgarian, thus bringing Europe's values closer to the citizens. The featured poets include Austria's Wolf Harrant, Belgium's Hugo Claus and Odilon-Jean Perier, Bulgaria's Hristo Botev, Cyprus's Pantelis Mechanicos, the Czech Republic's Jaroslav Seifert, Denmark's Piet Hein, Estonia's Jaan Kaplinski, Finland's Pentti Saarikoski, France's Paul Eluard, Germany's Friedrich von Schiller, Greece's Constantine Cavafy, Hungary's Sandor Petofy, Ireland's Mairtin o Direain, Italy's Dante Alighieri, Latvia's Rudolfs Blaumanis, Lithuania's Marcelijus Martinaitis, Luxembourg's Raymond Schaack, Malta's Dun Karm Psaila, The Netherland's Jan Hanlo, Poland's Czeslaw Milosz, Portugals' Alvaro de Campos Fernando Pessoa, Romania's Mihai Eminescu, Slovakia's Jan Smrek, Slovenia's France Preseren, Spain's Lope de Vega, Sweden's Tomas Transtromer, Turkey's Nazim Hikmet, and Britain's Liz Lockhead. The book includes a map of central Sofia where all the poetry walls are marked.
